Section One: The dreaded multiple choice. The first section of the AP Lit exam consists of 55 multiple choice questions that must be completed within one hour. There are excerpts from drama, verse, or prose fiction, and there are several questions following each passage, relating to deep literary analysis of the passages. This section of the exam is 45% of your final score on the exam.

Section Two: Essays, essays, essays. This section consists of 3 essays. Three of them! You are given two hours to complete the task of writing an essay on literary analysis of a poem and passage of prose fiction, and analysis of a piece of literature in the free response. It is important to stay direct and stray from redundancy while writing the essays, and time management is key. The essay section of the exam counts for 55% of your final score.
